Surgical

Physiotherapy can be used pre-operatively to maintain limb function prior to surgery, post-operatively to assist in the recovery of muscle strength, range of movement and use of the limb, and also in cases where surgery is not possible due to a pre-existing problem e.g. heart conditions, to advise appropriate exercise programmes and to reduce pain with techniques such as massage and electrotherapy.

Physiotherapy alongside hydrotherapy assists the strengthening of the structures supporting the spine and limbs and maintains joint and tissue flexibility to help maximise recovery. Owners are taught the appropriate techniques which they can use at home to continue the therapy between sessions.

Examples; Cruciate repair, hip or spinal surgery.

All treatments are carried out in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966; a Veterinary referral is required.
